Senior Platform Engineer (Cloud), Crawley, West Sussex required by one of Britain's leading business services groups to work within a professional, structured working environment based near to Gatwick Airport. 

You'll lead the design, development and implementation of the platform solutions using Google Cloud Platform, Qlik Sense/QAP and other shared platforms and services. You will also be responsible for leading the community of DevOps Practitioners.


Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Deliver platform solution and services:
· Lead the design, development and implementation of the platform solutions using Google Cloud Platform, Qlik Sense/QAP and other shared platforms and services
· Deliver automated orchestration of services on the platforms (eg knowledge of containers) that product teams can use
· Bridges the hardware-software boundary
· Design, build and deliver pre-approved Infrastructure and Platform as code for use by the Product teams
· Own and maintain the repository of automated, pre-approved, fully tested and re-usable patterns and templates on the Platform that can be used by the Product teams (everything as code)
· Provide expert advice to product teams on best way to use existing services and utilities from the repository
Lead community of Devops practitioners:
· Lead the community of Product and Platform engineers who are interested in adopting DevOps practices to implement CI/CD on the platforms to improve the reliability and frequency of delivery
· Gather virtual teams to innovate and resolve business challenges, running proof-of-concepts and industrializing them on the platform
· Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement
· Coaching and mentoring product team engineers and developers on DevOps practices
· Collaborate build a wider community internally and externally (eg DevOps Con, GCP meet ups etc.)
· To ensure that any work applied to teams is shared across peers to build up best practice
· Act as governance / competency for the team – ensuring they are adhering to standards but more importantly, actively driving your skill in to the teams through such techniques as pairing, brown bag sessions and retrospectives
Operational reliability:
· Act as the technical point of contact on the platform for the cloud service providers (e.g. Google) to ensure the Platform is operational and is able to meet the service levels of the products using the platform
· Responsible for maintaining of the enterprise wide view of all the consumers of the Products including usage and pricing
· Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews
· Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health
· Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity
· Lead incident response and resolve issues on the platform
· Continuously improving our security, failover, resilience and disaster recovery mechanisms
· To work with Lead Developers and Architects on the adoption of new technologies into the estate, ensuring that these are shared with other areas and that they align with company standards etc
