Head of Business Systems,  Insurance

The Role:

Head of Business Systems is required for a key business area of a global market leading insurer. This position will lead a team of circa 20 and play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day activities and delivery of IT projects focusing on ensuring the stable operation of their IT products. You must be passionate about delivering innovative solutions and eager to work in a fast-paced global financial services environment. They are predominantly an MS house and Azure environment.

Previous insurance experience is essential. This role will ideally suit a strategic thinker who is also able to work in a hands-on manner to cultivate and develop internal and external business relationships, implement technology strategy with focus on modernisation and growth, and successfully deliver results by leading their team in line with organisational goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee leadership of an agile team of 20 including: Developers, Testers, PMs, BAs and Solution Architects
• Foster relationships with several business-side executives to ensure projects and programs align to business objectives
• Work with executives to plan and prioritise projects and BAU activities
• Define a strategy for updating fit for purpose tech stack
• Oversee delivery of transformation projects to ensure that they are on time and budget, and that they exceed business expectations for quality
• Management of a significant IT budget
• Be accountable for all the project & program level status reporting, project financials reporting, resource management, financial management, timesheet tracking, etc. and act with the delegated authority of leadership
• Managing and supporting change effectively and acting as a change agent
• Lead the recruitment and development of talent to deliver all approved global and regional in-flight and pipeline initiatives – with an emphasis on deep business knowledge, product management, solution architecture and DevOps
• Leverage and co-ordinate with the Application Management Service on mature products of the product portfolio
• Manage IT and operational risks relating to compliance, risk, audit and privacy/data protection, ensuring that system and process controls are compliant with applicable policies, standards and all regulations
• Build, lead and preserve a highly motivated and high performing world-class team culture

Key Requirements:

• Experience in a leadership role in Insurance, London Market ideal, however not essential
• Experience with IT platform design, development, consultancy and operations
• An emphatic manager with a high focus on mentorship and enablement and well-connected to the operations globally
• Ability to build teams and strong skills in the management of internal and external interfaces, also in an international context
• Consulting and collaborative working style creating a culture of accountability and sharing
• Change management experience and outstanding organisational skills
