Data Engineer, SQL

Salary: circa £70k + bonus + benefits

The Role:

Data Engineer is required by vibrant and growing Insurance organisation. This is a key role within their data team that will see you help to drive forward challenging and exciting data initiatives. You will have experience of working on data solution projects, with strong SQL and ETL experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering data solutions and change requests
  • Builds data solutions where required to address changing requirements – managing new requests and incidents
  • Can address complex data problems and support issues as required
  • Consults the business analysts, developers and system owners to minimise customisation where feasible
  • Assesses the impact of change on data models to determine and avoid any potential issues which may hinder our operational environments
  • Actively works with the system owners to maintain the data model and maintain data integrity throughout system integrations and reporting
  • Work closely with our Power BI and reporting analysts to ensure data is accurately represented in dashboards and reports
  • Builds knowledge and expertise of internal systems with other data team members
  • Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders including but not limited to Underwriting teams, Operations, Finance, Risk & Compliance and HR

Key Requirements:

  • Extensive SQL and ETL knowledge
  • Insurance MI or reporting experience
  • Expertise to include MS-SQL Server, TSQL, SSIS, SSRS, VBA, Power BI,  Advanced Excel, Power Pivot, Power Query
  • Nice to Have – Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks, PowerShell, DevOPs, Python
  • Ability to work quickly, efficiently and methodically
  • A strong team player who is confident in their ability
  • Very strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Proactively sharing ‘what works best’ with others across the organisation
  • Actively listens to the views of colleagues, but also has the strength of character to challenge where required
  • Planning, organising, and managing skills, and ability to prioritise
  • 2 to 3 years experience gained in an insurance MGA or carrier environment
  • Good understanding of Insurance Operations, Credit Control and Finance
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of insurance principles, regulations, products and services
