Application Support Specialist, Insurance

Salary: Circa £74k plus bonus plus benefits

Location: City of London

Job Type: Full Time

The Role:

Application Support Specialist is required by leading insurance organisation. You will play a key role in the operation and support of their Finance and Underwriting IT products (applications) and be a key technology support partner to the business application owners. This role is responsible for ensuring assigned applications are maintained to deliver high quality results, aligned to risk and compliance requirements, to cover the financial and (re)insurance operational capabilities of the business. You will own and manage the product lifecycle(s) including functional and IT upgrades, ensure a secure and stable run of the products in production and be responsible for the product costs. You will be the key contact and account manager for the assigned products with the business product owners.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the internal product management of assigned Finance and Underwriting applications.
  • Ensure the stable run of the applications, including setup and management of run, support, incident and monitoring processes aligned with the needs of the business, escalates, and manages solutions for major incidents.
  • Undertake oversight on the maintenance and support of applications with internal development teams or vendors, including fixing of defects and small changes and supporting end users in case of handling requests or helping with errors.
  • Undertake regular operational review meetings with internal support teams and vendors/providers including business stakeholders where required. Ensure review documentation is centrally held and actions from meetings are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and current information on applications, interfaces, servers, run roles and responsibilities etc. in central repositories such as Lean IX and SNOW CMDB.
  • Assist project teams to ensure timely and appropriate handover to BAU for new products or major releases and that all required processes, standards and artefacts are in place.
  • Conduct and update risk assessment and control evaluation (RACE) on products as required and ensure that the applications are running securely.
  • Manage software licenses needed for the application and ensure third party contracts are kept up to date in accordance with global asset management.
  • Proactively manage application run costs, forecasts and track budgets are running to plan.
  • Ensure purchase orders are raised correctly and in a timely manner for approval with requisite goods receipts created to facilitate invoice payments.
  • Liaise with IT towers to ensure that testing and validation of applications is undertaken and confirmed following disaster recovery testing, patching, upgrades etc.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience in an Application Support role ideally within Insurance.
  • Experience supporting Finance and Underwriting applications ideal.
  • Good knowledge of and application management life cycles.
  • Proven experience owning business and partner/vendor relationships.
  • Cost and budget management skills.
  • Collaborative working style, creating a culture of accountability and sharing.
  • Stakeholder and 3rd party engagement and management skills.
